Classical Ballet

The Classical Ballet classes taught in the Full Time Course draw from the Russian, Vaganova methodology. Internationally renown as one of the most aesthetic ballet syllabi, it is also superbly functional, facilitating dancers with co-ordination, strength, flexibility and artistry while also developing bodies that can sustain the rigors of dance. Russian trained dancers often dance well into their forty's, testimony to the balanced and anatomical sound technique. Classical classes are taken each week by Melbourne Dance Theatre Director Martin Sierra. Complimenting the technique lessons, students are also trained in Pas de Deux, Pointe, Variations, Neo-Classical Repertoire and Classical Coaching.

Contemporary

The Contemporary Dance course centres around Cunningham technique for the first semester. Covering the elementary and intermediate levels of this technique, the lessons concentrate on development of a strong core of strength, from which the body can emanate with extreme mobility. Cunningham technique offers a sure foundation to support the physically and mentally challenging choreography students will experience through company rehearsals.

Over the second semester, classes will be in Limon technique and most of European contemporary repertoire.

Pilates / Limber

Three times a week, students will prepare their bodies for the physical challenge of the coming day, with Pilates / Limber classes. Drawing from a diverse range of body conditioning forms, the classes are tailored to overcome the physical limitations of each student. The exercises employ breath, concentration, control, precision, centring and flow, and serve to foster a keener body awareness, development of strength alongside flexibility and improve the posture of students.
